The 73th Independence Day was celebrated at the George High School field,here, under the chairmanship of Collector Indramani Tripathy on Thursday.
On the occasion, Tripathy hoisted the national flag and appealed the public to join hands and make Bargarh a clean district in the State.
More than 35 groups of different schools and colleges participated in a parade. Bhagirathi Pradhan at Barpali was awarded by the chief guest for his bravery, who saved many lives from train accident. Josobanti Meher and Karnna Meher were also awarded for their handloom art.
Besides, 25 students of Bargarh district who were selected for participation in national level competitation in various fields were felicitated.
Ramdhun was played throughout the town at 7.30 am during the flag hoisting ceremony and the evening.A cultural programme was organized by the district administration on the occasion.
