The Manav Adhikar Surakshya Manch here has written a letter to the Chief Minister demanding him to mandate enrolment of children of Government employees only in Government-run primary schools and fill up of vacant teachers’ posts to improve the deteriorating school education system in the State.
Manch president Upendranath Mishra said the State Government is closing hundreds of schools in the State on the pretext of low enrolment. “last year, 15 schools were shut down only in Ganjam district while the district administration has decided to close as many 58 schools this year. In spite of all facilities provided by the Government the enrolment number is declining in Government schools,” said Mishra.
The Manch president attributed the declining enrolment to non-fulfilment of required number of teachers’ posts and lack of responsibility on the part of the teachers. This has paralyzed the primary education system both in urban and rural areas.
Manch general secretary Maguni Nayak alleged that while the State Government has conspired to close certain number of schools every year, private schools are taking advantage of this commercializing the whole education system.
He sought cooperation from all Government employees to protect Government schools from being closed. The letter was given to the Chief Minister through the RDC (South).
