Manas murder: Crime Branch begins probe

Published on:

A day after the DGP ordered Crime Branch (CB) probe into the cameraman Manas Swain murder case, a CB team led by DSP Kalpana Sahu reached the Bhadrak SP office on Thursday to hold discussion with the Bhadrak police on the progress of the probe.

Another team has gone outside to trace web channel owner Sarmistha Rout, the prime accused in the abduction and murder case.

The Bhadrak police which had carried out a raid on Wednesday have sealed the office of web channel 'Sampoorna' at Sky Tower apartment in Bhubaneswar.

They also seized the car used by Sarmistha and her associates in kidnapping and transporting the body of Manas and several incriminating documents and other materials including two computer hard disks and a camera set during a raid at the office.

Meanwhile, it has come to light that Sarmistha had stayed at her in-laws’ house for three days. Her mother-in-law Shantilata, who resides at Kolipasi village under the Kaliapani police station in Jajpur district, has told police about Sarmistha's visit to their house along with another woman named Jhuna Bhoi.

Shantilata said Sarmishta had married her son Jatin Kumar Bal in 2013; but in 2018, the couple parted ways due to some reasons.
