Man throws acid at wife, held in K'mal

Suspecting fidelity of his wife even after having a son and a daughter-in-law, a man threw acid on his middle-aged wife’s private parts at Dimirigudagaon village under the Phiringia police limits in Kandhamal district late on Monday night.

The victim Panchami Digal, who has sustained minor acid burn injuries, is now undergoing treatment at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Phulbani.

Meanwhile, police arrested the accused husband Thomas Digal, who had fled from home after pouring acid on Panchami.

According to Panchami (45), “Apart from being a drunkard, he (Thomas) always suspects that I have extramarital affairs with two men in our village and alleges he is not the actual father of our child.”

“On Monday night when I returned to bedroom after attending nature’s call, my suspicious husband hurled acid at me,” alleged Panchami.

Her married son Alok Digal said his father after throwing acid at his mother also tried to attack him with an axe. Meanwhile, Dr Surendranath Sethy, who is treating the victim at the DHH, said the woman sustained minor burn injuries in her private parts and is out of danger. This incident occurred barely a week after a minor girl was attacked with acid by her boyfriend in Ganjam district on Saturday night.
