A person allegedly killed his father and mother by thrashing them with a hammer at Barapadar village under the Kishore Nagar police limits in Angul district on Thursday night.
According to police sources, one Dukhishyam Bagha (35) of the village returned home in an inebriated state and beat his wife following a heated exchange of words between the two.
His parents Karunakar (70) and Champa (65) opposed his act and tried to stop him assaulting his wife.
In a fit of rage, Dukhishyam took a hammer and hit the two on their heads, killing them on the spot.
On being informed, police reached the spot, seized the bodies for postmortem and detained the accused. Investigation into the matter is underway.
