Vigilance officials on Tuesday arrested Aswini Pradhan of Ogi village under the Jarapada police station limits in Angul district for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs2,000 in the name of the Angul RTO.
Aswini had demanded the bribe from Suryakanta Pradhan of Khamar village in the district. The complainant alleged that his brother-in-law's tractor was caught by staff of the Angul RTO Office on April 7 and a fine of Rs6,350 was collected. later, Aswini who climed him to be a close aide of Angul RTO warned the complainant to pay Rs2,000 or else the tractor would again be caught in near future.
Suryakant reported the matter to Vigilance, following which a trap was laid and Aswini was caught red-handed.
