A man who was shot at by her daughter’s jilted lover at the premises of the laxmisagar police station here on Sunday night is still battling for life in a private hospital.

According to reports, the incident occurred while the victim Prabhakar Mishra of Birapurushottampur in Puri district was returning from the laxmisagar police station after lodging a complaint against th stalker who was troubling his daughter over several months.

Police said the accused youth Snehasish Mishra from the same village where Prabhakar was living with his family, fired a couple of shots from a country made pistol targeting the victim. One of the bullets struck Prabhakar, and he was left critically injured.

Some onlookers and policemen present at the spot immediately overpowered the culprit and seized the pistol and a live bullet from his possession.

“The culprit has been nabbed and a case under Section 25 and 26 of IPC have been lodged against him. Details in the case would come out after the investigation is completed,” said twin city Commissioner of Police YB Khurania, who reached the spot soon after the incident and conducted the preliminary investigation.

The victim’s condition is still critical and he has been admitted to a private hospital in the city. However, the police have drawn a lot of flak for the incident.

The victim had couple of days earlier informed the police about Snehasish continuously harassing his daughter. But then the police did not take any action.

Some locals said the criminals have lost fear of the khaki; otherwise they would not dare to shoot someone in the police premises.
