In an unfortunate incident at Kotapur under Jajpur district's Dharmsala police station, a man has sold his baby girl for Rs 12,000.
District Child Protection Unit officials have launched an investigation into the matter and said the baby would be rescued and action would be taken against the culprits.
Natabar Behera's wife gave birth to the girl last Thursday and her husband Natwar sold the newborn to a Jain man of Mahakalpada.
The couple, who already has two daughters and a son, was unable to support another girl, according to family members.
