In social media, a video footage which showing a kangaroo court in Baliapal block giving inhuman treatment to a 37-year-old person, who was allegedly caught in an immoral act, has gone viral in the district.
The man identified as Bijay Das, a resident of Chaumukh and married, allegedly had illicit relationship with a married woman of the same village. He was caught red handed when he intruded into her house in absence of other male members.
Although the incident occurred on Saturday yet it surfaced on Sunday.Das after being dragged out of the house was beaten black and blue and tied in a pole initially.
He was stripped by the irate villagers following the decision of a village level group and paraded naked by hanging a brick in his genitals around the village for his wrongdoings.
However, he was released after his mother prayed before them assuring he won’t commit such nuisance in future.
No case has been lodged in the local police station yet. Locals maintained that Das was a habitual offender of such crimes and although he committed the same several times yet he was not caught.
In the meantime, rights activists observing the act of villagers as insensible and brazen breach of law of the land as well as basic human rights have demanded action against the villagers.
They observed that they have taken law into their hands instead of taking the case in proper forum.
