A man opened fire at his estranged wife’s lover at Jhankarpada village under the Charmal police limits in Sambalpur district late on Tuesday night.
According to reports, Swadhin Pradhan of the village had married the woman, who, however, later eloped with her lover Pankaj Dehuri.
Swadhin lost his cool after he saw Pankaj and the woman in the village on Tuesday night as the duo had come to the locality for some work. He fired several rounds of bullets at Pankaj from a country-made gun.
Pankaj sustained critical bullet injuries in the firing and was rushed to the VIMSAR in Burla for treatment. He was later shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated.
Police have started an investigation into the incident. Efforts were on by the cops to trace and nab the accused who absconded after the incident.
