In a gruesome incident, a person hacked his wife to death and then chopped the body into pieces at village Palasia under Haldipada gram panchayat in Baleswar district on Saturday night.
The accused Pradeep Das was caught red-handed by fellow villagers while he had stuffed the body remains in a sack and was trying to discard it on railway tracks.
As the villagers confronted him, he said his wife had committed suicide on the railway tracks and he was collecting the body remains to cremate it.
However, the locals suspecting foul play informed the victim woman Mama’s family members, who rushed to the spot and, ascertaining about the incident, lodged an FIR with the Basta police.
Mama’s parents alleged that their daughter was continuously being mentally and physically tortured by Pradeep and his family members for more dowries.
However, when police reached the village, Pradeep and his father had fled from the spot. The cops detained Pradeep’s mother and younger brother for interrogation.
Mama had married Pradeep about 10 years ago. They have a six-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son out of their wedlock. But their marital life was disturbed and neighbours said the couple always quarrelled and fought.
Police have launched a hunt to nab Pradeep and his family members.
