Police on Wednesday arrested a 50-year-old dalit man on the charge of killing his 16-year-old daughter at village under the Binjharpur Police Station in Jajpur district for allegedly falling in love with a 44-year-old married person at the village.
It was a case of honour killing as Nakul Jena strangled his daughter Ranu on Sunday night for allegedly having illicit relation with a married person. After killing Ranu, he burnt her body.
The incident came to light after Matanji Jena, a woman leader, filed an FIR at the Binjharpur police station on Tuesday alleging that Nakul Jena on Sunday night cremated the body of his daughter after killing her.
Police arrested Nakul Jena under Section 302 and began investigation into the case, said Binjharapur police station IIC Asit Ranjan Mohanty.
The victim girl was reading in Class-X in the village high school.
