Police recovered a body of a 35-year-old woman from a locked house in the Talsara police limits of Sundargarh district on Tuesday. The deceased, identified as Pramila Soreng of Ghutupada in Subdega block of the district, is suspected to have been strangled to death by her husband Ali over suspected extramarital affair though the exact reason behind the death was not yet ascertained.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Pramila along with her husband Ali and seven year-old son was staying in a rented house of one Runi Kahali in Ghutupada.

Ali, a worker at Bansal Traders in Subdega, was reportedly going through a rough patch in his marriage. On September 16, he had a fight with his wife suspecting her to be involved in an illicit affair. Next day, he even confided to an acquaintance, a liquor trader, that his son had witnessed his wife having physical relationship with another man.

Three days later, as foul smell emanated from the house and the door was locked, neighbours suspected something wrong and informed police who along with the local tehsildar and a scientific team reached the spot.

They broke open the door and recovered Pramila’s body and sent it for postmortem. Sources said Ali fled the scene along with his son after committing the crime.

A case was registered and further investigation was underway.
