In a shocking incident, a young woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband and sister-in-law after she caught them in a compromising position on Friday night in Jajpur district.
Police sources said Ananta Jena (28), son of Biswanath Jena of Barikula village under the Binjharpur police station (PS) had an illicit affair with his widowed sister-in-law identified as Anjana (30).
Ananta got married to Rinarani daughter of Bishnu Jena of Ahias Ramachandrapur village under the Mangalpur PS in 2011. However, he allegedly continued his physical relationship with Anjana after marriage despite being caught red-handed by the victim.
The accused duo used to physically torture Rinarani for opposing the extramarital affair. The incident was brought to the notice of local civil society by the victim and the society had reprimanded Ananta to stay away from such illegal act.
On Friday night, the duo was again caught red-handed by Rinarani and they allegedly beat her to death fearing further trouble. The incident came to the fore on Saturday morning.
A case has been registered at Binjharpur PS by the deceased’s brother Arjun Jena. Acting on the complaint, police have started an investigation into the incident.
