A man thrashed his wife to death and set her afire in Banchhanagar village under the Gaisilat police station in the district on Tuesday night. Later, he committed suicide.
The accused identified as Maheswara Sahu had a fight with wife Sushreeta over some matter at night. The fight took a violent turn when Maheswara in a fit of rage beat Sushreeta to death. He then set Sushreeta on fire.
Later, Maheswara committed suicide by consuming poison near his house. After receiving information, police reached the spot and sent the bodies for postmortem. Investigation into the matter is on.
