A youth hacked his father to death and critically injured his mother in Jajpur district late on Saturday night.
According to reports, the accused Kalia Mukhi (45) demanded money from his father Bijay Mukhi (65). When the latter refused to give in to the former’s demand, the duo had an altercation, following which the accused hit his father with a machete. When his mother intervened in the matter, she was also attacked by her son.
The incident took place at around midnight at Itapur village in Ragadi panchayat under the Korei police limits.
Following the incident, the accused, who was said to be in an inebriated state, set the house afire and fled from the scene.
A grievously injured Bijay was rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Jajpur Road, where he succumbed to his injuries. His wife was also admitted to the hospital.
Jajpur SDPO Jugal Kishore Das, Korei IIC Chinmayee Sahu reached the spot and began an investigation into the incident.
The police surrounded a nearby cashew orchard, where the accused was hiding. later, the accused was arrested.
