Explosion at a cracker manufacturing unit in Pindol village under Gop block of Puri district on Tuesday morning claimed the life of an elderly man and left his son critically injured.
The deceased was identified as Ranjit Biswal (58). His son Bapi Biswal (25) was moved to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.
The blast took place at around 8 am while the father-son duo was making crackers on the terrace of their house, which is allegedly an illegal cracker manufacturing unit.
Both sustained grievious burn injuries in the explosion and were rushed to the Charichhak Community Health Centre, where the doctor declared Ranjit brought dead. Bapi was shifted to the SCB Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
The intensity of the blast was so strong that the walls and the roof of the house were severely damaged.
