In a tragic incident, a youth was trampled to death by an elephant at Baula village in the Gurudijhatia area in Cuttack district late on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Tikam Sahoo of Sasanga village. According to reports, Tikam came in front of the elephant when he was returning home by a bicycle. The pachyderm dragged him with its trunk and crushed his head.
After the body was spotted by locals on Thursday morning, they staged a road blockade on NH-55 at Baula Chhak demanding compensation for the family members of the deceased.
Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the busy road due to the blockade.
