A person falls in love with a girl; marries her in a temple and later ditches her for not getting dowry, finally inviting trouble for him here.
Sources said Benudhar Naik(31), a resident of Tengabahal village in Sundargarh, had married Munika Barchiya (24), a resident of Kusumdega village under Bargaon police station of the same district at the Vedvyas temple two years ago.
After their marriage, Benudhar had left Munika at her home and had assured her that he would take her to his home after convincing his family members. But thereafter, Benudhar used to come to her in-laws house to meet Munika and keep physical relationship with her but never took her to his home. When Benudhar came to know that Munika has become pregnant, Benudhar left his village and went to Goa. But Benudhar was regularly talking to Munika over phone from Goa. Ten months ago, Munika had given birth to a girl child. On June 14, Benudhar returned to his village. When Munika told him to take her to his home, to her utter shock, the latter declined.
Munika’s parents informed it to their community and soon a meeting was held in the village. But Benudhar told the villagers that he did not know Munika and had not married her. When Munika claimed that he was lying, Benudhar agreed to take Munika with him provided she paid Rs50,000 in cash and a bike in dowry.
Munika’s parents lodged a FIR in Bargaon police station. The police arrested Benudhar on Tuesday. After the court rejected his bail plea, he was sent to jail.
