Pradip Kumar Jally (63), a resident of Mahisa village under Krusnaprasad police limits, launched a fast unto death in front of the Collector’s office here on Wednesday, protesting against injustice meted out to him.
He alleged that he has been living in Puri since 2016 after he escaped from captivity in a cyclone shelter. He said that he was locked for three days in the shelter.
Narrating further, he told since 2016, his rivals have encroached upon his house after driving her wife away besides grabbing all his movable and immovable properties, jewelleries and money.
Bringing serious allegations of injustice despite several prayers to authorities from bottom to top in Puri, Jally said, he ultimately chose to sit on the dharna here, seeking justice.
In a petition to the Collector, Jally cited that one Prahald Karan and his supporters kept him captive in a cyclone shelter on November 19, 2016. His hands and legs were tied in ropes and he was severely tortured there. After two days, he narrowly escaped from captivity and came to Puri to save his life. He filed a written complaint with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Puri against Karan and associates on November 22, 2016. After a few days, his wife also left home as she was thrashed out by Karan.
Jally added that he has already moved to the Collector and SP offices several times but in vain.
He attributed his enmity with Karan to cooperative society politics.
On last December 5 the belongings inside his house worth around Rs 5 lakh have also been auctioned by Karan and associates, he said.
