Man held for raping minor in Baleswar

The Rupsa police in Baleswar district have arrested a person on the charge of raping a minor girl on December 16 after giving her a lift to her on his motorcycle.

The accused was identified as Sanjib Jena of village Gambharia under the Singla police station in the district. He committed the offence when he was out on bail in a previous rape case, said police.

Reports said Sanjib offered lift to the victim from Baleswar while she was waiting for a bus for her village. Sanjib told the girl that he also belonged to her village Kasafal and gave her lift in his motorcycle.

But on the way, he took her to a secluded place beside the National Highway and sexually assaulted her and fled from the spot.

The victim was spotted by the locals when she was weeping inconsolably.

The locals informed the Rupsa police when she didn’t reveal anything why she was crying. Later, she said to police that she was raped by an unknown biker, who had assured her to drop her at her home.

The police after registering a case under relevant sections of IPC and POCSO Act began investigation. During the probe police ascertained that while giving lift to the victim, Sanjib had withdrawn money from an ATM kiosk and his picture was captured in the CCTV camera installed there.

Sources said that the accused is married and is the father of two children. He was earlier arrested and jailed in connection with a rape case in Mayurbhanj.
