A 60-year-old man was on Monday arrested by the Jamboo Marine police for allegedly raping his daughter-in-law in Balipata village under Ramnagar gram panchayat of the district. He was identified as Gopal Jana.

Jamboo Marine PS IIC Ram Kumar Murmu said Gopal’s son, Raju had divorced his first wife and got married to another woman. His first wife along with her children was staying with her father.

Later, Gopal and his wife convinced Raju’s divorced wife to come and stay with them. Accordingly, she came along with her children and stayed at the in-laws house. But in March, the woman was allegedly raped by Gopal. When she informed her mother–in-law about the incident, she asked her to remain silent about the matter, Murmu said.

But later, when a dispute was triggered between her and the in-laws, she informed the locals about the incident. On Monday, with help of locals she lodged an FIR with the Marine police.

Based on her complaint, Gopal was arrested and along with the woman, he was sent to a local hospital for medical examination. On Tuesday, Gopal was produced in the SDJM Court and after his bail plea was rejected he was sent to judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected, informed the IIC.
