A person was detained at the Lingaraj police station in the city on Sunday for mowing five puppies and critically injuring another at Gosareswar Square in the Old Town area.
The accused was identified as Prafulla Rout, a driver by profession. The arrest was made on the basis of a complaint lodged by members of the city-based NGO 'Seva Hin Sankalp' at the Lingaraj police station on Saturday.
As per reports, Rout allegedly had run over his car on one puppy of June 3 and the next day he killed another four puppies and injured yet another while the animals were eating food on the roadside. "He mowed down one puppy with his car and the next day he ran over another five puppies leaving four of them dead. Another puppy is undergoing treatment at the hospital and is in critical condition now," alleged a member of the NGO.
He further alleged that when the members of his NGO opposed Rout’s act, he abused them and also threatened them of dire consequences. On the other hand, Rout's family members rebutted the allegations and said that he mistakenly ran over the dogs.
