The Nilgiri police on Sunday arrested a 44-year-old man on the charge of killing his neighbour, an elderly man, reportedly due to a longstanding land dispute.
Police said the accused Samarendra Barasal of village Pinchabania under Iswarpur gram panchayat has been forwarded to court after being booked under sections of murder and the Arms Act.
It was revealed that the dispute was over agricultural land between Samarendra and 69-year-old Baidhar Barasal and it aggravated with the passing days.
To settle scores, the accused attacked Baidhar with a billhook, Grievously injured, Baidhar was first admitted to the Shyamsundarpur PHC. Later on his way to the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack, he succumbed to his wounds near Jajpur.
