The Kujang police in Jagatsinghpur district on Tuesday arrested a 60-year-old man Akshay Sethy on the charge of killing his daughter and three minor grandchildren.

Sethy allegedly murdered his daughter Mamina, her two daughters and a son by strangulating them and later disposing of their bodies in the Mahanadi river.

Mamina's husband, Anant Sethy was working with IFFCO as a contractual worker. He died on April 3 in a mishap and the company had released an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh. In a bid to usurp the compensation money Akshay plotted and executed the four murders.

The dead bodies of the Mamina and three children were fished out from the river near Shani temple in Jagannathpur under Kujang block on May 10.

Akshay and his son were detained by the police after locals revealed that they had asked Mamina and her children to shift to their house on the fateful day.
