Unable to bear the pain following his wife’s death, a man committed suicide in Kantabanji in Balangir district on Monday.
The deceased man was identified as Godhan Mallick. The incident took place at Dabari village under the Kantabanji police limits.
Sources said Godhan’s wife Chandrakala was suffering from kidney-related ailments. He spent a lot of money for her treatment but failed to save her life. His wife died on Sunday night. Hours after her death, he hanged self from a tree at his farmland in the wee hours of Monday.
“His wife had kidney failure, but he kept her under treatment till her last breath. She died at around 11 pm on Sunday. Mourning the death of his wife, he took the extreme step to end his life,” said Champesar Nag, a former Ward Member of the village.
