A man allegedly hacked two women to death at Expressway Colony in Kujang in Jagatsinghpur district on Sunday.
According to reports, accused Chintua Nath (35) attacked one Anita Rout (42) of the locality with a billhook and a pipe in morning and the woman died on the spot.
Hearing screams of Anita, another woman, Nirmala Lenka (54), came out of her house while the man also attacked her. She was rescued in a critical condition and rushed to the Kujang Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The accused also attacked Nirmala’s son and two other persons, who all sustained injuries and were admitted to the hospital for treatment.
On being informed, police reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the incident. The weapons of offence were seized by the cops. The bodies were recovered for post-mortem.
Preliminary probe by police revealed that Chintua was under mental stress during the last few days.
Reports also said that Chintua, who was a driver by profession, always keeps himself in an inebriated condition.
