A television shop was duped of Rs 4,67,000 by a person, by giving a fake DD to purchase 11 lED TV sets on August 15 but the matter came to light recently, only after bank officials termed the DD as fake.
The manager of the store filed a complaint in Plant site police station on Monday, following which police registered a case and started an investigation. Sources said an unidentified person had stepped in to Doordarhan, a leading digital store of the city, located in daily market area, during first week of August.
He had posed as a customer and had shown interest to procure lED TV.
The store officials had given him due importance and offered him the best price as well, since he was to buy 11 units. He had left the store, claiming that he would come soon with the money and take delivery.
On August 15, he had appeared in the shop again and had handed over a Demand Draft amounting Rs 4, 67,000 towards payment of 11 lED TV sets. The officials could not suspect that person and also about the credibility of the DD and had handed over the TV sets.
As per the normal procedure, the store officials had deposited the DD in bank next day. They had later come to know that the DD was fake, following which they lodged an FIR on Monday. Police meanwhile came to know that the address mentioned by that person in television shop was also fake.
