A Special Fast Track Court here in Kandhamal district on Monday sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment for seven years and imposed a fine of `20,000 on him for raping a girl after promising to marry her a year ago.
Convict Kailash Bahuka of Nabaguba village in would undergo another three-month jail if fails to pay the fine, additional public prosecutor Pratap Patra said. The 20-year-old victim of Saranggarh village had lodged a complaint at the Phulbani Sadar police station accusing Bahuka of raping her near Phulbani town on a promise of marriage.
