Special Judge, POCSO, Ranjan Kumar Sutar on Thursday convicted a person for kidnapping and raping a minor girl and sentenced him to 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI).
The court also directed him to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 and in default to undergo another two years’ jail term.
The convict, identified as Arun Kumar Bari of village Manikpura, was arrested by the Singla police in June 2022 after a complaint was lodged by the parents of the victim that their daughter was kidnapped and raped by him.
“The accused was tried under different sections of IPC and the POCSO Act. As many as 15 witnesses and 14 exhibits were examined. The court also directed that a compensation of Rs 4 lakh be paid to the victim through the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA),”said Special Public Prosecutor Pranab Panda.
