The Commissionerate police on Monday arrested a person, who allegedly posed as a buyer on online buying and selling platform OLX and contacted prospective sellers before fleeing with their two-wheelers on the pretext of test-drives in Bhubaneswar. The police recovered 11 stolen scooters from his possession which he had sold in multiple locations in the State. The accused was identified as Amit Kumar Patra alias Jitu, a resident of Narayana Mandir Sahi under the Bhanjanagar police station in Ganjam district.Police said that Patra used to search for prospective sellers on OLX and contact them. He then fixed an appointment with them.

Once the gullible seller handed over the vehicle to him for a test-ride, he would then flee. Subsequently, Patra used to sell the vehicles to his ‘customers’ in several districts at low prices, added police sources. Acting on a tipoff by reliable sources, a special squad of Twin City Commissionerate Police had launched an investigation and nabbed Patra from his native place in Ganjam.
