A person committed suicide in a temple at Nuapatna village under Hindol block of Dhenkanal district on Tuesday night reportedly due to non-fulfilment of his wish.
The body of Niranjan Sahu (35) was found in a hanging state at the temple on Wednesday morning. On being informed, police reached the spot, seized the body and sent it for postmortem.
According to reports, Sahu had been prostrating before the idols of the deities at the temple for the last 21 days praying for recovery from depression and illness.
Disheartened over no fruitful results, Sahu decided to take the extreme step. After devotees and servitors of the temple had left the shrine, he hanged himself with a piece of cloth.
Police have started investigation into the incident.
