A man was arrested on Tuesday for duping a former Sub-Inspector of Police of Rs 33 lakh in the pretext of selling his house to the latter.

Kiran Kumar Nayak had signed an agreement and paid one Sasadhar Panda Rs 33 lakh to purchase his house at Jagada. But later when he wanted to take possession, Panda started avoiding him and did not pick up the phone. He also absconded.

Nayak lodged an FIR  at the Bondamunda police station on July 22 against Panda. The police after registering a case had started investigations.

During inquiry, police ascertained that the agreement which Panda had shown to Nayak was fake and the house he had mentioned in the agreement did not exist.

Police while tracking Panda came to know about his location in Dhenkanal district. He was nabbed and cash of Rs 25,000 and a motorbike were seized from him.
