A labourer died in a mishap on Thursday at Baghia Harijanpara in Subarnapur district when the trolley of a tractor carrying materials from the Dubula stone quarry overturned.
The deceased was identified as Bansidhar Sahu (43) of Surjimunda of Dubula panchayat under Tarbha block. Following the incident, tension prevailed at the spot. The locals were irked when a Sub Inspector of Police Jadab Meher took sides of the tractor owner. The relatives of the deceased also alleged that the cops also harassed them for filing an FIR.
But social worker and trade union leader lalit Nayak reached the spot and pacified the irate locals. Nayak alleged that the innocent labourer died as the administration is a silent spectator against the illegal smuggling from the stone quarry. However, ZP member Raghunath Rana, Tarbha AES College president Amrut Naik and Gyana Naik tried to amicably settle the issue.
