As he touches live wires in forest to kill wild animals
The Hemgiri police of Sundargarh district on a tipoff that live electric wires were spread deliberately in forest areas by the locals to target the wild animals, mainly to trap wild boars, referred the matter to district forest and electricity officials on Friday. A local youth had died in electrocution, after coming in contact with live wires on a path in forest on Wednesday evening. The police have started a manhunt to nab the culprits.
Mahipal Kaudi (38), a native of Purna village, under Hemgiri block on Wednesday evening reportedly had gone in his bicycle to a local medicine store to purchase some medicines. While returning, Mahipal reportedly had chosen a path in forest area to reach his village, but he faced the mishap due to the charged wires. “We came to know that this has been a regular practice of locals to target some forest animals, mainly the wild boars,” said Hemgiri police station IIC Sradhanjali Subudhi.
“Since some rare species of animals, including black panthers, are available in Hemgiri forest range area, we have intimated the forest and electricity officials to stop the practice,” Subdhi said.
