Tension prevailed at the Capital Hospital here on Sunday morning after a patient died due to medical negligence.
Relatives of the deceased staged an agitation at the hospital alleging that the patient died as he was not properly attended to by doctors in the ICU.
Admitting negligence on the part of doctors, Hospital Director Bisbhusan Patnaik ordered a probe.
Gunadhar Khatei, a resident of Ganganagar here, had been admitted at the hospital late Saturdaynight. He was diagnosed of pneumonia and cardiac problem and shifted to the ICU under critical condition.
At around 8 am on Sunday, the doctors on duty left the hospital as their shift was over even without waiting for arrival of their reliever doctors. When the relievers came at around 8.40 am, the patient’s condition had further deteriorated and he died at around 9:30 am.
“The doctors on duty left him unattended before the arrival of their relievers, resulting in the death of my husband. Stringent action should be taken against the responsible doctors for their negligence causing the loss of life,” said the deceased’s wife Manorama Khatei.
“We admit the negligence on the part of doctors. We have taken the issue seriously. I have ordered a probe which will be conducted on Monday. Prima facie, it is the fault of the doctors engaged in the ICU. They had left before the arrival of other doctors,” said Capital Hospital Director Biswabhusan Patanik, adding that stringent action would be initiated against whoever found guilty.
