A man died allegedly after consuming spurious liquor at the Sikharchandi slum under the Infocity police station here on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Summa Rao.
locals alleged that an illegal liquor manufacturing unit is operating in the locality where spurious liquor is being sold for Rs 50 onwards.
“He (Rao) returned to his house in an inebriated state late in the night, started vomiting and became unconscious and later died,” said a local.
Irate locals and the wife of the victim and her two children blocked the KIIT-Nandankanan road demanding compensation to the kin of the deceased and immediate closure of the illegal liquor manufacturing unit.“When we protested against the liquor unit, we were targeted by antisocial elements. They even tried to kill us. Though we have intimated all this to the concerned authorities, nothing has happened as yet,” said a woman protestor.Police rushed to the spot and managed to pacify the agitators.
