The Oupada police in Baleswar district on Monday detained a 55-year-old man on the allegation of murdering a six-year-old girl, who was a distant granddaughter of his.
The daughter Kamalakanta Sutar of Bodhi village under Badapokhari GP was missing since Monday last. On Saturday, her body was found in a pond in the backyard of Sutar’s house.
A 16-year-old cousin of the deceased told the police that his father Madan Mohan Sutar had killed the girl to appease God. He said that he as a witness to his father sacrificing her.
The police besides detaining the suspect sent his son for recording of his statement in court on Monday.
