Man denies torturing daughter-in-law

Following an allegation of sexual harassment by one Bhusan Sahu’s widowed daughter-in-law, the police had arrested him and forwarded to judicial custody. After coming on bail, Sahu also allegedly manhandled and attempted to rape the woman in her parents’ house. A complaint in this case was also lodged in the local police station by the woman with the initiative of some NGOs to take exemplary action against the accused.

But Sahu told a Press conference on Thursday that the allegation against him is totally baseless. Some of his relatives are trying to create disturbance in his house, he said. Some days back, his daughter-in-law’s brothers had demanded him to register half of his landed properties in her name and that of her 12-year-old son. They also demanded Rs5 crore in cash, he alleged.

Sahu said he told his daughter-in-law’s brothers that he cannot take a decision in this regard without consulting his two sons and, moreover, he is meeting all the expenses of the woman and her son’s education.  However, the share would be given in a Will form, if necessary, Sahu said. But Sahu’s daughter-in-law has at a Press meet refuted his version. She said her son has been forcibly taken by Sahu. Unless her son is restored to her, she would continue her fight for justice and undertake fasting in front of the district Collector’s office shortly.
