In a horrific incident, a man burnt his pregnant wife alive in Patadei slum under the Mancheswar police station here late on Friday night.
The woman was identified as Sukanti Sandel.
Sources said a daily wage labourer, Bibhisan Sandel, reportedly had a fight with his pregnant wife Sukanti over some reason, following which he strangulated her before setting her ablaze.
The matter came to light when neighbours rushed to Sandel’s house after hearing a commotion from the house. However, before they arrived on the spot, Sukanti had already died. Getting information police rushed to the spot and arrested the accused.
“We have registered a case under Sections 149, 18, 498 (A), 304 (B), 302 of IPC against the accused Bibhisan and arrested him.
The woman’s body has been sent to the Capital Hospital for post-mortem,” informed Mancheswar IIC KP Mishra.
