A man allegedly beheaded his 12-year-old nephew as human sacrifice for a good crop harvest at Jadamunda village under the Komna police limits in Nuapada district.
According to police sources, accused Chintamani Majhi (48) hit his nephew Dhansing Majhi with a billhook when the latter had gone to a farmland at around 11 am on Saturday.
Dhansing’s elder brother, who was watching the incident from a distance, raised an alarm, following which villagers gathered at the spot and informed police about it. Police came to the spot and arrested the accused.
A murder case was registered in this connection. On the other hand, Chintamani confessed that he sacrificed his nephew for Choru, a local term used for sacrifice.
