In a shocking incident, an aged person was allegedly lynched to death by his wife and son late on Saturday night reportedly over a quarrel on distribution of the former's old-age pension money.

The woman was arrested, but her son managed to escape and is on the run till this report was prepared, police said, adding that a massive manhunt has been launched to nab him.

The incident happened at Kokipada village under Nahalpur panchayat under the Cuttack Sadar police station, about 30 km from here.

According to police, the family head Fakir Mohanty (62) had been thrown out of the house by his wife Kumudini (50) and their 26-year-old son and he was staying in a slum in Bhubaneswar.

"On Saturday, when Fakir had come to the village to collect his old-age pension, his son and wife picked up a quarrel with him demanding money. When he refused to part with it, the enraged mother-son duo thrashed him mercilessly with a bamboo stick and an iron rod, killing him in their house," police said.
