The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Tuesday night seized fake currency notes of Rs4.68 lakh from a person after he allegedly attacked a CRPF jawan in Hatia-Yesvantpur Express near the Titlagarh railway station in the district.

Reports said the accused Rama Chandra Bhoi of Bhatli in Bargarh district and a CRPF jawan were travelling in the same bogie of the train. Suspecting the behaviour of Bhoi, the jawan struck a conversation with him. However, Bhoi allegedly attacked him with a knife and tried to flee from the spot.

The jawan sustained injuries in the attack but managed to overpower Bhoi and informed the Titlagarh GRP about the incident. After the train reached Titlagarh, GRP officials detained Bhoi and searched his bag. They found fake currency notes of Rs4.68 lakh in denominations of Rs2,000 and Rs 500.

The cops have seized the counterfeit notes and started investigation into the matter.
