The BN Pur police have arrested one Uma Shankar Behera of Christian Sahi at Mohana in Gajapati district for allegedly extorting money by sending threat letters impersonating himself as a Maoist.
As per an FIR lodged by one Prafulla Kumar Sahu of Courtpeta Baidyanath Nagar here, Behera had demanded Rs 2 lakh from him by giving him threat calls and sending threat letters impersonating himself as a member of the CPI(M) Maoist Rayagada Division.
Acting on the FIR, the police arrested Behera and also seized a mobile SIM card and some letters from his possession.
Behera works as a lawyer at the Mohana court, said Brahmapur SDPO Shantanu Kumar Das at a Press meet held here on Sunday.
