The Khaira police arrested a man on charge of killing his wife for dowry and forwarded him to court on Tuesday. The accused was identified as Nandakishor Nayak of Salagadia village.
According to reports on December 2, Minati, wife of Nandakishor, sustained critical burn injuries and was transferred to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack on deterioration of her condition.
However, she succumbed to her injuries during treatment on Monday.The body while was being ferried to the village, tension ran high as the family members from parents side of the deceased refused to allow the body to be taken for cremation demanding action against her husband and in-laws. They kept the body lying on road.
They alleged that the in –laws of the deceased tortured and killed her. The brother of the deceased lodged an FIR with the local police alleging that the accused family set the victim on fire after pouring kerosene.
The situation was pacified after the husband was arrested. The police assured to take action against the others involved in the crime.
