In a suspected case of political rivalry, a man and his son were seriously injured after some unidentified miscreants opened fire at them at Rajnagar Chhack in Jeypore town on Tuesday.

Sources said a group of miscreants intercepted Narendranath Nayak and his son Santosh Nayak and fired at them leaving the duo critically injured. The father-son sustained injuries in their legs and abdomen.

Initially, the duo was rushed to a hospital in Jeypore and later shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) after their condition deteriorated.

Though the exact motive behind the attack is yet to be known, the locals suspected that the firing could be fallout of political rivalry.

A BJD youth leader’s hand is suspected behind the firing by locals, as he had a fight with Santosh on Monday.

On being informed, police rushed to the spot and seized two empty cartridges from the spot.

Police have launched a manhunt to nab the attackers and further investigations are on. The incident sent shockwaves in the area and out of panic shops and business establishments downed their shutters.
