Locals block road in protest
Hundreds of locals staged a road blockade at Hockey Square here on Saturday morning, protesting death of a man and his son in a road accident and demanding adequate compensation for the family and construction of speed breakers on the spot.
The agitators withdrew the blockade after five hours when tipper owner promised to provide a compensation of Rs 1.6 lakh to the victims’ family. According to sources, two persons, Munna Lal Sethi (54) and his son Sambhu Lal Sethi (32) of Balighat were killed after being run over by a speeding tipper at the Hockey Square. Locals managed to stop the tipper and handed over the driver to the police.
