Even as senior police officers claim that the investigations into the schoolteacher Mamita Meher murder case are being conducted in a proper manner, the family of the victim has approached the Orissa High Court seeking a direction to the police for an impartial probe and for holding the trial of the case in a fast-track court.
Mamita’s father Suchandra Meher moved the High Court on Tuesday.
Sources said the court has not yet taken note of the matter till Wednesday. State DGP, Balangir SP and Collector and Sindhekela police station in-charge officer have been arrayed as respondents in the petition.
Notably, the Balangir police have arrested prime accused Govinda Sahu of the murder case. Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra is alleged to have close links with Sahu. Opposition political parties are demanding removal of Mishra from the Cabinet to have an impartial investigation into the case.
