The Nandnkanan Zoological Park (NZP) authorities on Wednesday brought Joy, a male giraffe, to the zoo from the Kolkata-based Alipore Zoo. Joy will be kept with Khushi, the lone female giraffe here. The animal was brought here under the supervision of an eight-member expert team headed by NZP Assistant Director Kamal lochan Purohit.

Joy left the Alipore zoo by a special vehicle at around 11:45 am on Tuesday. The vehicle started its journey at a minimal speed of 20-30 km per hour. Joy was offered food and water on its way to Nandankanan.

The five-year-old giraffe was brought here in exchange for four tigers. The four tigers, including two females, were transported by a special truck from the Nandankanan zoo on Friday last. Rishi, a white male tiger, Snehasis, Sheela and Payal were sent to the Alipore zoo under the exchange programme. While two of the tigers are two years old, the two others are seven and 11 years old.
