Published on:

The Orissa High Court on Thursday issued notices to the State Government as well as to the CBI on a petition filed by Biju Bag of Bargarh district seeking a CBI inquiry into the death of his father Makhunu Bag.

Makhunu (54) of Dekulba village under the Bheden police station died in July under mysterious circumstances after he was summoned to the local police station in connection with a case pertaining to his elder son Raju.

While police maintained that Makhunu was let off after questioning, his mutilated and decomposed body was retrieved on September 29 from near a temple under

the Ulunda police station in neighbouring Sambalpur

district.

Alleging that his father died of police torture, Biju in his petition has demanded a CBI probe into the incident and sought compensation of Rs 20 lakh from the Government invoking Right to life guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution.

Justice BR Sarangi issued the notices to the Government and the CBI, the two

respondents of the writ petition, asking them to file their affidavits within two

weeks, informed the petitioner’s advocate Prabir Kumar Das.
